One Stop Systems delivers MDA-T5 data recorders with high-speed disk arrays, 3U servers to NASA

ESCONDIDO, Calif., 9 Jan. 2011. One Stop Systems Inc. (OSS), maker of custom and semi-custom computing systems for defense applications, has delivered its MDA-T5 data recorders and 3U servers to NASA Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base. The MIL-STD disk array, an ultra-rugged, high-performance RAID storage system with dual removable drive packs and dual SBB 2.0-compliant controllers with Fibre Channel 8Gb/s inputs, were acquired for NASA’s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) project.

The MDA-T5 operates over the Fibre Channel connection to the 3U server with achieved data transfer speeds in excess of 700MB/s, far exceeding the throughput NASA required for the SOFIA project, according to a representative. The dual 6-disk removable drive packs enable the data gathered to be removed quickly from the aircraft and transferred to ground systems while maintaining the RAID configuration for each drive pack.

“OSS produced the complete solution for interfacing with the data recorders. The combination of 3U servers and the data recorders meant that the systems initiated properly. OSS engineers were on-sight to ensure that that the systems achieved the expected results,” says Steve Cooper, CEO.
