Alion to provide life cycle acquisition support, modeling & simulation, test & evaluation to U.S. Air Force

MCLEAN, Va., 26 Feb. 2013. Alion Science and Technology, a global engineering, R&D, IT, and operational solutions company, won a $183 million, three-year U.S. Air Force contract modification to provide life cycle acquisition support to the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Acquisition) and the F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Management Office.

Alion will provide requirements analysis, acquisition strategy, and program execution support under the Secretary of the Air Force Technical and Analytical Support (SAFTAS) contract. This support ranges from database and enterprise architecture development to modeling and simulation and test and evaluation support and is expected to allow for greater continuity across the spectrum of Air Force and F-35 acquisition operations.

“This contract brings a cost-effective and easily tailored workforce to support the full lifecycle of Air Force acquisition at the headquarters level, the F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Office and various other acquisition-related organizations,” says Rob Hirt, Alion senior vice president and manager of the Technology, Engineering and Operational Solutions Sector. “Alion’s SAFTAS Team will also suggest business reengineering changes to streamline acquisition oversight activities.”

The work supports weapons systems, including the KC-46, C-17, F-22, F-35, Small Diameter Bomb, and the Global Hawk and Predator unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The SAFTAS Team also provides technical and architectural support to help the Air Force Chief Information Officer develop an acquisition enterprise architecture.

The contract runs from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2015.
