Microsemi ProASIC3 FPGAs certified to QML Class Q for radiation-tolerant space

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., 29 June 2015. Microelectronics experts at the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) at Fort Belvoir, Va., have placed the ProASIC3 field programmable gate array (FPGA) from Microsemi Corp. in Aliso Viejo, Calif., on the Qualified Manufacturers List (QML) for Class Q radiation-tolerant devices for use in space.

WASHINGTON, 24 June 2015. NASA is partnering with government and industry to test a system that would make it possible for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to fly routine operations in U.S. airspace. Engineers and officials at NASA, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI), and Honeywell International Inc. are flying a series of UAS tests through July at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center, Calif., under the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration in the National Airspace System (UAS-NAS) project.

FAA and European Commission expand air traffic management pact, cooperation

PARIS, 18 June 2015. Officials at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union (EU) plan to cooperate to provide seamless air traffic services for aircraft flying between the United States and Europe. FAA Administrator Michael Huerta and the European Commission’s (EC’s) Director General for Mobility and Transport, Joao Aguiar Machado, signed a letter of intent on air traffic management (ATM) modernization at a ceremony in Paris. The extension and expansion of the current agreement between the U.S. and E.U. are intended to help ensure passengers enjoy safer, on-time flying over the Atlantic, thanks to the benefits of NextGen and Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR).

PARIS, 18 June 2015. Engineers at Alenia Aermacchi needed an environmental control system for the company’s new, lightweight M-345 High Efficiency Trainer jets, due to enter service in 2018. They found their solution at Honeywell Aerospace (NYSE:HON), and signed a contract for Honeywell’s Environmental Control Systems and Cabin Pressure Control Systems, designed for aircraft cooling, cockpit pressurization, and temperature control.
