Rockwell Collins ARC-210 becomes first airborne radio to operate on MUOS satellite system

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, 2 Oct. 2014. The Rockwell Collins ARC-210 radio has become the first airborne radio to operate over the U.S. government’s newest satellite constellation, the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS). The MUOS system is based on cellular phone technology and represents a paradigm shift for Department of Defense (DOD) satellite communications, officials say.

NASA officials have selected SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launch vehicle and Dragon spacecraft to fly American astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. Under the $2.6 billion contract, SpaceX will launch the Crew Dragon spacecraft atop the Falcon 9 launch vehicle from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The propulsion system also will enable precise in-space maneuvers as the spacecraft docks/undocks from the International Space Station and other future low-Earth orbit destinations.
