SUNDSVALL, Sweden, 26 March 2014. Meridiana Group officials sought an effective electronic flight bag (EFB) platform for its fleet-wide EFB initiative. They have selected the navAero iPad Air Class 2 EFB system, and also established a strategic partnership with Meridiana Maintenance S.p.A. DOA (EASA.21J.470) to provide engineering services for the installation of the EFB systems on the Meridiana fleet as well as for other airline fleets.
Meridiana Group will deploy the navAero iPad Air EFB system across the entire fleet, including the Airbus A320, Boeing B737 and B767, and MD-82 aircraft. First installations are planned for mid-2014.
The adaptable navAero iPad “Smart” Mount system with the built-in power/data interface module will be deployed with connectivity to aircraft power for device charging. Optional deployment of the navAero Universal Aircraft Interface Device for certified connectivity to ARINC 429 and ARINC 717 data and aircraft discrete will be included in the certifications. The integrated system will allow Meridiana Group to realize maximum functionality of the iPad Air tablet as a mounted Class 2 EFB platform for use in all phases of flight.
“The flexibility of the navAero iPad EFB solution was the key for us in being able to achieve an affordable, scalable EFB program,” says Ivano Pippobello, Meridiana fly chief operating officer and & Meridiana Maintenance chief executive officer. “That, coupled with our strategic teaming to provide DOA services and Part 145 parts manufacturing for the creation of installation kits, brings synergy to both our organizations in being able to provide great things to our industry and expand EFB technology in Part 121 aircrafts.”
“navAero is tremendously pleased to expand our original relationship with Meridiana and to have them become an important part of our ever-growing family of airlines who have embraced our Class 2 EFB technology solutions. And the ability of Meridiana Maintenance S.p.A. to provide their expertise as a DOA and Part 145 services will be a significant benefit to navAero and all our customers,” says Simone Giordano, president, navAero Group.
