PHOENIX, 14 Nov. 2014. Officials at Lion Air in Indonesia sought integrated surveillance and voice- and data-recording equipment for the airline’s fleet of 234 Airbus A320 aircraft. They found their solutions at L-3 Aviation Products (L-3 AP) in Phoenix: L-3 AP’s FA2100 Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR)/Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and T3CAS Integrated Surveillance System.

“With the increase in air traffic, our selection of the most advanced technology avionics to monitor both terrestrial and airborne obstacles will enable Lion Air to provide a safe and comfortable journey for passengers,” explains Lion Air Group CEO Rusdi Kiran.

The FA2100 series is L-3’s solid-state digital voice and data recorder, with more than 25,000 units installed on commercial and military platforms. The T3CAS is the standard surveillance system on the Airbus A320 family of jets. Deliveries of L-3’s equipment for new Lion Air A320s are expected to begin in March 2015.

“We are thrilled to provide our proven and reliable safety-enhancing technologies for Lion Air aircraft,” added Ralph DeMarco, vice president of marketing and sales for L-3 Aviation Products.

The FA2100 CVR/FDR ensures compliance with the latest requirements for recording Controller-Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC) aircraft messages. The FDR includes high-speed data rate throughput to maximize the number and sampling rate of recorded aircraft flight parameters.

The T3CAS advanced integrated surveillance system developed by ACSS, an L-3 and Thales Company, features a Traffic Alert & Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS), and Mode S Transponder with Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out transmission capability, in a single unit.

Since taking to the skies in 2000, Jakarta-based Lion Air has become one of Asia’s fastest-growing airlines. Today, the group operates an extensive network covering over 70 destinations in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
